This weekend is looking like a multi-sport weekend! Warm weather in store for tomorrow to enjoy all outdoor activities followed by some fresh pow on Sunday. Enjoy all this weekend has to offer and check out the details below.
Saturday, we will still be under the ridge that has been dominating conditions over the past few days. Temperatures in the valley are expected to hit a high of 60! It will be a great day to get outside and enjoy the sunshine and warmth while it lasts, because this nice weather won’t be back in the anytime soon. Behind this upper level ridge is an upper level trough that will dig deep into the U.S. Southwest. This trough will be the main driver of this incoming system.
The trough will provide plenty of frontogenesis and lift as it moves into Northern Utah Saturday night into Sunday and will allow for moderate to heavy localized precipitation. Winter Weather Advisories have been issued by the NWS for the Wasatch Mountains and valleys.
The National Weather Service is calling for 6-12″ in the mountains and 0-4″ in valleys. The SREF plumes fall in between this forecast for Alta-Collins with an average around 8″. The spread is still a bit uncertain, so I will make my forecast a little conservative at 4-8″ in the Cottonwoods, 6-10″ in the Northern Wasatch mountains, and 3-6″ at Park City and Deer Valley.
With this incoming storm, expect heavy travel up the canyons. Get up early and drive safe! Until next time.
